Mum's Yummy Golden Syrup Tart!

This gooey, crunchy treat was everyone's favourite when I was a girl growing up and it remains the same 2 generations later! It only takes a jiffy to make, has few ingredients and you can whip it up in no time!

Ingredients

  • one sheet of ready rolled puff pastry
  • 3c crushed cornflakes
  • 1 1/2c of golden syrup (dont be stingy)
  • butter to grease pie dish

Directions

  1. grease one shallow pie dish with butter
  2. line with the sheet of ready rolled pastry - trim and cut to fit nicely
  3. crumble cornflakes evenly over pastry base
  4. pour golden syprup evenly over cornflakes
  5. use leftover pastry cut into strips to form a latticework pattern across the top of the dish, you would need to attach each strip of pastry to the edge with a little water to make it stick properly
  6. (this is optional)
  7. bake in an oven 200C for 10 mins - then reduce heat to 180C and bake a further 10 mins
  8. allow to cool before tasting as the golden syrup will hold the heat and will burn your mouth. Serve a generous portion with fresh whipped cream, custart or vanilla ice cream - yummy!!!
