Hearty Steak And Kidney Stew


Steak and kidney stew is a nz favourite, I've just added that extra bit of flavour that makes you want to come back for more.

Ingredients

  • 1kg Chuck steak cubed
  • 500gm kdneys sliced
  • 2 T oil
  • 2 heaped teaspoons chicken stock
  • 2 heaped teaspoons beef stock
  • 1 t garlic granules
  • 1 carrot diced small
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1/2 c frozen peas
  • 1 t vegemite
  • 1/4 c balck sauce
  • 1/4 c tomato sauce

Directions

  1. Brown both meats in heated oil.
  2. add onion and carrot, cook for a couple of mins.
  3. mix stocks with 1 cup boiling water, add to meat.
  4. add garlic, vegemite, and sauces.
  5. bring to the boil and simmer on low for approx 1 hour until meat is tender.
  6. add peas 5 minutes before cooking is finished.
  7. Thicken with cornflour and water to liking.
  8. Serve with heaps of mashed potatoe.
