The Hershey Dream

When i first tried the "HERSHEY DREAM" i couldn't stop eating it. My mum and sister were both complaining about making it every time i asked for it so they finally decided to teach me how to make it. Now i can make it for myself whenever i feel like it and would love to share it with the rest of NZ so they can also enjoy this delicious rich dessert.

Um.. Just to clarify, Direction no. 3, is 2-3 teaspoon, or tablespoon of gelatine? and does it really serves 16-20 people?

Shem

it is 2-3 tablespoons depending on the how thick you want the texture to be and yes it can server 16-20 people it just depends on your serving size

Kristie

Am going to make this for a dinner party this week, a few questions, how long does it keep for and if I were to do it in a springform tin, will it hold its shape once I take the outer ring off or is it too runny for that and better done in a pie dish? Thanks!

Shem

by the way you can add more gelatine to the mixture depending how thick you want that layer to be..and it usualy serves around 16 because its so sweet the serving size is small. once you make it you should be able to alter to your taste eg you may wna use more oreos if you like a thick base etc. And its best to use a pie dish..

Kristie

Ok thanks for that, will give it a try and let you know how I get on. Might see if I can add extra gelatine to get it to hold its shape because with the layering affect it'd look awesome freestanding. Maybe Chef Paul can help us out here? :)

Chef Paul to the rescue! This is an interesting way of using packet chocolate mousse I must say. I answer this although I haven't made it but I suggest that the concern that tablespoons of gelatine may seem a lot is because it is diluted with water to dissolve. I would stir the warm gelatine into the condensed milk then into the creamed cream cheese. Dropping a little more crushed oreo biscuits into the chocolate mixture so you have a crunchy texture maybe a good idea too. Sometimes layering in a cling wrap lined loaf tin or terrine mould and cutting slabs/slices may be better than a wedge from a spring form tin? I agree with Kristie, it would look awesome stablised.

Kristie

Hey Shem, great recipe, it certainly makes a lot. Made a medium sized springform tin full, 6 muffin holes, and another bowl! I was hoping for it to have a stronger cream cheese taste, I think if I were to make it again I'd make half the amount of mousse and use double the amount of cream cheese with the same amount of cond milk and add some chopped whole oreos to the cheesecake mix. I ended up using 6 tablespoons of made up gelatine and it set to a moulded shape in muffin pans lined with baking paper, looked great! Just made a flickr page if you'd like to have a look at how the mini ones came out, will get a picture of the big one tomorrow. Thanks! http://www.flickr.com/photos/43506711@N04/4007384183/

thanks i might try those changes the next time i make it, sounds like a good idea. the pictures look good too, hope you thought it tasted just as good as it looked :)

I know this hershey dream is a favourite of my family and extended families dessert. I always enjoyed having hershey pie at hungry Jacks but it gets expensive to buy one each for every family member, when there is eight of us. I thought of a way of making our own, came up with hershey dream. Yes I am Shems Mum. This is delicious!!
you have to try it.
