Tuna Spread

Time to go fishing. You can make up tuna rolls with some crusty bread rolls before you head out to sea or just grab a loaf of sliced bread and the spread to prepare later when the fish stop biting. Lunchtime. Take a marinated hook and bait up, drop line over board, secure pole in rod holder and prepare to take a break from dragging in those kahawai and barracuda (good bait). Start on that yummy roll and whoops, snapper on the line. Take half a second to place lunch in a secure spot. Captains chair is out. Squashed tuna roll is only fit for berley. Haul in snapper and continue eating. Don’t bait up again if you want to enjoy your lunch.

  • 1 Large can of tuna packed in oil
  • 1 Small onion finely chopped
  • 10 Sweet pickles, chopped (Bic’s sweet gherkins)
  • 10 slices Pickled jalapeno chillies, chopped
  • 3 Tbsp Mayonnaise (Best Foods Mayonnaise)
  • 1 tsp Mild American or Dijon mustard

    Directions

    1. Drain the can of tuna oil in to an old container where you have placed your fishing hooks to marinate or you can pour it over old bread, scones or cakes that have failed. Makes great berley. Combine the above ingredients and store in the fridge.
